Pink fused alumina also named Chrome Corundum
Main components
The content of alumina (Al₂O₃) is approximately 95% to 97%, while the content of chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃) is about 2% to 5%. The rest are minor impurities (such as SiO₂, Fe₂O₃, etc.).
Crystal structure
It belongs to the α-alumina single crystal structure like white corundum, but the addition of chromium oxide changes the crystal growth morphology - the grains are finer, more evenly distributed, and the grain boundaries are more closely combined, thus having better toughness than white corundum.
Appearance characteristics
It appears as rose red, purple red or light pink, with clear edges of the particles, and after fragmentation, it can still maintain a relatively complete cutting edge.

Hardness
Chrome Corundum Mohs hardness level 9 (slightly lower than that of white corundum, which ranges from 9.0 to 9.5), but higher than that of brown corundum, capable of meeting the grinding requirements of most metal materials.

Chrome Corundum Toughness
Significantly higher than white corundum (about 10% to 20% higher), with strong impact resistance, and the abrasive grains are less likely to break during the cutting process, maintaining continuous cutting ability.

Self-sharpening
When the abrasive grains wear to a certain extent, they will naturally break, revealing new sharp edges, reducing wheel clogging and overheating phenomena.

Chemical Stability
Resistant to high temperatures (melting point approximately 2050℃), resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, suitable for processing in humid or high-temperature environments.

Grinding Characteristics
The grinding force is gentle, the workpiece surface is less likely to produce burn marks, cracks and other defects, and can achieve a high surface finish (Ra value can be as low as below 0.8μm).

Pink Fused Alumina Main Application Scenarios
The performance of chromite alumina makes it particularly suitable for precision grinding of surfaces with high requirements and processing of materials prone to deformation. Typical applications include
Metal processing
①Fine grinding of high-strength steels such as quenched steel, high-speed steel, and bearing steel (such as bearing rollers, tool cutting edges)
②Grinding of materials prone to work hardening such as stainless steel and titanium alloys (to reduce surface burn).
Tool manufacturing
① Semi-fine grinding and fine grinding of mold cavities (such as plastic molds, stamping molds);
②Edge repair of hard alloy tools (to avoid chipping).
