Advantages of Calcined Alumina

Maintain its size and shape over time: One of the key advantages of calcined alumina is its ability to maintain its size and shape over time, ensuring that it delivers consistent performance throughout the grinding process. This is thanks to its highly uniform particle size distribution and low impurity levels, which help to minimize surface defects and enhance product quality.

Wide range of applications: Calcined alumina can be used in a wide range of applications, including surface finishing of metals, ceramics, and glasses, as well as precision machining of hard and brittle materials. Its versatility and exceptional performance have made it a top choice for manufacturers looking to improve product quality and increase efficiency.

Features of Calcined Alumina

High melting point:

The melting point is over 2050℃, capable of withstanding high-temperature environments. It is not prone to melting at high temperatures and can effectively resist various high-temperature industrial kilns and ovens.

01

High mechanical strength:

It has good compressive strength and flexural strength, capable of withstanding the pressure from the materials inside the kiln and mechanical impacts. It is not easily damaged by external forces.

02

Strong chemical stability:

It has good resistance to erosion by acids and alkalis. At high temperatures, it is not prone to chemical reactions with other substances and can be used for smelting different types of metals and resist erosion by slag, etc.

03

Good thermal shock stability:

After special processing, it has the ability to resist cracking due to sudden temperature changes and can adapt to frequent opening and closing of kilns in industrial production.

04

Uniform particle size:

The particle sizes are relatively consistent, with a narrow distribution range. This enables uniform dispersion in refractory materials, ensuring the consistency of material performance and facilitating the improvement of the overall quality of refractory materials.

Application of Calcined Alumina

In the field of ceramic industry, structural ceramics: Calcined alumina, with its high hardness, excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance, is widely used in the manufacture of structural ceramic components, such as ceramic bearings, ceramic seals, ceramic cutting tools, etc.

Electronic ceramics:

In the electronics industry, calcined alumina is an important raw material for making electronic ceramics. For instance, it is used in the production of integrated circuit substrates, electron tube casings, high-frequency insulating porcelain, etc.

Insulating materials:

Calcined alumina can be made into various insulating parts, such as insulators and insulating sleeves, which are used in high-voltage electrical equipment to play the roles of insulation and support.

Thermal conductive materials:

In some electronic devices, good thermal conductivity is required for heat dissipation. Refractory grade calcined alumina can be added as a thermal conductive filler to materials such as thermal conductive silicone and thermal conductive plastics to enhance their thermal conductivity.

Production Process of Calcined Alumina

Crushing and grinding: The bauxite ore is first crushed and ground into a fine powder.

Digestion: The powdered bauxite is mixed with a strong alkali, usually sodium hydroxide, and heated under pressure. This dissolves the aluminum hydroxides in the ore.

Clarification: The liquid containing dissolved alumina is separated from the insoluble residues.

Precipitation: Aluminum hydroxide is precipitated from the solution by cooling and seeding with fine alumina particles.

Calcination: The precipitated aluminum hydroxide is heated to high temperatures (usually above 1100°C) to remove water and other volatile substances, leaving behind pure alumina.

FAQ

Q: What is calcined alumina used for?

A: Calcined alumina is a versatile material with high hardness and thermal stability, used in refractories for furnace linings, as a raw material for ceramics and technical components, as an abrasive for polishing and grinding, and as a filler in coatings and composite materials.

Q: What is the difference between calcined alumina and Aluminium oxide?

A: Calcined alumina grains are normally composed of single platey crystals, whereas fused aluminum oxide grains tend to be fractions of large crystals and blocky in shape. A calcined crystal is theoretically a six-sided disk with a thickness of about one-fifth of its diameter.

Q: Is calcined alumina the same as alumina hydrate?

A: Unlike hydrated alumina, the calcined material has no loss in weight on firing. Thus it produces no gases of decomposition. Calcined alumina can of course by made by firing alumina hydroxide.

Q: What is the process of calcined alumina production?

A: A process for the production of alumina which comprises the steps of producing alumina trihydrate containing moisture, drying the alumina trihydrate to reduce the uncombined moisture content thereof and heating the dried alumina trihydrate.

As one of the leading calcined alumina manufacturers and suppliers in China, we warmly welcome you to buy calcined alumina in stock here and get quotation from our factory. Good service and quality products are available.
