Features Of Polyacrylamide

Charge neutralization: The organic colloidal particles in the sludge usually carry a negative charge, while the Cationic Polyacrylamide molecular chains are equipped with positive charge groups such as quaternary ammonium salts. When Cationic Polyacrylamide is added to the sludge, the positive charge groups are attracted by electrostatic forces to the negative charges on the surface of the sludge particles, significantly reducing the electrostatic repulsion between the particles and causing the negatively charged suspended particles to lose their dispersion stability
 

Bridging adsorption: The long molecular chains of Cationic Polyacrylamide (with a molecular weight of 8 million - 15 million) further enhance the flocculation effect through adsorption bridging. A single Cationic Polyacrylamide molecule can simultaneously adsorb multiple sludge particles, forming a three-dimensional network structure, which causes the suspended particles to aggregate into larger particles and accelerate their sedimentation

Acrylamide monomer preparation:

Acrylamide (c₃h₅no) is typically produced from acrylonitrile via a hydration reaction, using a catalyst (such as copper-based catalysts or microbial enzymes). This reaction converts acrylonitrile into acrylamide, which serves as the raw material for polymerization.

Polymerization process:

Conducted in an aqueous medium with initiators such as ammonium persulfate (aps) or redox systems. Acrylamide is polymerized in a water-in-oil emulsion, often used to produce high molecular weight pam. Acrylamide is dispersed in a non-solvent medium with stabilizers to control particle size.

Post-processing:

The gel is dried and ground into fine particles. The polymer remains in an oil-based emulsion for easy dispersion. The polymer is dissolved in water and sold as a liquid formulation.

Modification:

Produced by copolymerizing acrylamide with cationic monomers like dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (dadmac) or methacryloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (metac). Formed by copolymerizing with acrylic acid, sodium acrylate, or through post-hydrolysis.
